Since approval was long into 1983, '83 'Vettes were not produced on the General Motors assembly line. The concepts for the 1983 Vettes where rolled over into the 1984 Corvettes along with several items for fuel efficient technology.
Max listed speed on speedometer: 80 MPH due to 1980s Oil Shortage - 55 MPH, the Federal Speed Limit in that era required Corvette to have 55 on the speedometer at top dead center with larger characters than other speeds and with contrasting bright orange color. Corvette engineers provided statisical evidence that Vettes where fuel efficient with 25-30 miles per gallon of fuel consumption, therefore General Motors was permitted to resume production of the fabled American sport car in 1983, with first production cars slated for 1984.
