When you are gay it's never easy to 'come out of the closet', but it's essential for your own self-esteem and happiness.

  • Thanks for posting these videos RobNorthampton. It took me 21 years to come out to my immediate family, at 27 I came out to my best friend. As of early 2011 I came out to many of my coworkers. Its really not a big deal at all but I suppose I come from a "culture" that does not necessarily agree with homosexuality. Keep doing what your doing. Oh!! and you are a handsome fellow BTW

    Peace

  • @mounthydra Thank you for sharing your story, and for the compliment :-). Often the fear of coming out is far worse than the reality of it, so to hear positive feedback is always heartwarming, and offers hope to those still wrestling with opening up about their own sexuality.

  • I see that you're from australia too, and over here they have a kids helpline service that's free. and you can ring up a number and they have counsellors on the other end who can talk to you. iv never used it myself, but it's a service that is out there, and ppl do use it. that would probably be the best way for a teenager to get help if they can't tell their parents what their problems are.

:-) but im probably one of the worst ppl who can give advice, bcos im pretty messed up myself!

  • well, i only started uni this year, im still studying, so im not a qualified therapist or anything yet. so to answer ur question, no *I* haven't, but i'm sure that therapists DO get lots of people with those problems. The thing is, bcos you have to pay to see a therapist, it would be hard for a closet gay teenager to see one (eg. who's going to pay, and what are u gonna tell ur parents?) but yeah, therapists see a lot of depressed ppl, and they would see ppl who are depressed about being gay too

  • Do you get many cases where people are depressed about being gay or having some family problems or something?

  • that's great, hope it works for you :-) im studying counselling and psychology at the moment, and it's amazing how much therapy can do - and the most important part of it is how good the relationship is between the two ppl talking

  • exactly right, actually talking to them makes me feel like i can share something with someone else who understands me. i share my problems and thoughts and seek advice and same for them.

  • yeah that's what i mean. and i consider rob a good friend. i chat to some gay ppl on msn too, but iv never been on a gay chat. i guess it doesn't really matter where you do it, but places like this or the gay chat can do similar things. it's better to talk with ppl bcos then you don't feel alone in the whole wide world.
