@Minimalici0us There is a camera that is looking through the telescope. I wrote a software that linked the telescope and camera together. It can lock the telescope on the plane once it "sees" the plane through the telescope

@Minimalici0us It is a cargo Boeing 747 on its base and final leg of LAX landing pattern.

@hanshoffmeister Thanks! I wrote the software, it's called OpticTracker and I am selling it on the internet. I love it but I guess I am too emotionally involved to make an objective judgement :)

Boeing 777 ?

I know telescopes can track planets using GPS but how is it possible to track a flying object ?

So, the plane is already in motion. How do you start the automatic tracking sequence?
I notice you have a joystick with you. What's that used for?

@celson44 The way the software works is that the user manually control the telescope to follow the plane with the joystick. Once the software sees the plan in the field of view, it will start the automatic tracking and I can then let go of the joystick

Hello, Nice share. Question, I see you are using a Mac also, what software do you use and do you like it?

@hanshoffmeister it is not available for macOS yet. Although it may be in the future.
