GDRpr Background: The council received a four-star rating from the Audit Commission and was concerned that, although much hard work had gone into achieving the success, residents didnt understand what it was and what it meant to them and their day-to-day lives.
Objective: To communicate the success to local residents in a contemporary way, explaining the rating, what it meant for residents and highlighting the many good things which were going on in the borough.
What we did: We created a news report-style video, incorporating an interview with chief executive Graham Burgess and highlighting all the redevelopment projects and best practice which was helping to make the borough so successful. The video enabled the chief executive to communicate not only to the local community, but to several thousand council employees too, via YouTube and DVD.
Result: Not only did the video generate positive publicity for the council in the local media, it also led to a prominent piece in specialist press. It was also directly responsible for the councils director of policy being invited to deliver a keynote speech on digital/social media, as well as leading a training session and workshop at Marketing/PR Weeks national conference, entitled Engage the Public, in London on June 23.
