@MegaSmud Have you taken a similar test like the one iam proposing? probably not.The sound you hear is mainly the amp then the pedals(if any) then the effects(if any) and then the pickups, those make at least 95% of the sound...the rest is the scale of the guitar and how it was constructed and last the materials. You wouldnt know an 20th aniversarry acrylic jem from a wooden one unless you were told before hand.
-
@Dreamdancer11 Right! But I still hear a difference, even if I do not see the guitars. This thin, light-colored "plastic-like" sound. Wood guitars can also have this sound. But the sound is certainly present, and it's always so, if I compare plexiglas and wood guitars with each other.
-
@MegaSmud Of course you hear differences since you already know one is plexiglass the other is basswood and the other is poplar for example. But that is not an objective test.In an objective test you just get sound clips of 5 identical guitars in every way except material played by the same guy with the same gear and then come and tell me which is which. When you do..take the same test a week after...do you thing your selections will be the same(true of false)? i seriously doubt it.

@Dreamdancer11 Until now, I've heard some plexiglass guitars, and I could always hear the difference. I can only say, what I heard. Plexiglass guitars sound is usually light and thin. I was on your channel, I watched the videos of the plexiglass guitar and the PRS; and I must say again: I hear the difference. Sorry, but that's all I can say.
-
@MegaSmud Mate seriously...same player same scale guitar and construction, same amp and settings same pedals and effects and same pickups...the only difference is the material...can you really tell plexiglass from mahogany? carbonfiber from basswood? etc etc...i wouldnt bet my life on it.Sure there are some differences, but there are so miniscule that you cant really tell. When you see something your prejudices come rushing in..but when only hearing it....then you have an honest answer.

@Dreamdancer11 In this video, I can see a good amp. The pickups are good too. A guitar has to sound good without effects. Depending on the material, the vibrations of the strings are transmitted differently. Plastics do not have suitable vibration characteristics. Sure, an e-guitar is not an acoustic guitar. But that does not change the necessary vibrations.
-
@MegaSmud Do you really think you can tell an acrylic from a wooden guitar when all you get is a sound file? And anyways...sound mainly comes from the hands then the amp then the pedals and effects..then the pickups...then the guitar construction and last a very small portion by the material. Its an electric instrument afterall not acoustic.Plus if you want superior material in every aspect ill give you one...carbon fiber.

@foreverfallout I think it's pretty cool as well. I'm thinking of making one myself. Emagine some EMGs in that mo fo!

Does no one besides me actually like the mechanical and cold sound to it? The lack of standard tone could be a statement in and of itself in the right music.
-
No wood,no tone.
You can say what you want, but this guitar sounds like acrylic. No warmth, depth, bass and no richness of tone. Wood remains unbeatable.

@artemis92400 I've watched your video. But: There you use the wha wha effect. With clear and distorted sound, the guitar sounds different.

@artemis92400 Acryl sound again. Really, no joke. The guitar sounds like its matarial. Acrylic guitars will never be my friends ... because they are very easy to "see through" :-)
