Bob Marley and The Wailers were big fans of the US vocal groups of the 50's and early 60's. Not only did they release a number of their own doo wop songs in the early days but they covered classics such as "The Ten Commandments Of Love" and this one.

  • These lyrics are mostly invented. Only the chorus seems to be the "cover" part.

  • Good point!

  • It's a rip-Off of the original by Dion and the Belmonts.

  • i wouldn't necessarily call it a rip-off. A lot of Jamaican artists did covers of other people's songs. It was a common practice back then

  • We go to Jamaica a couple of times a year as my wife's Jamaican born and bred, Can I get a copy of this record? Not for love nor money. So thank you for uploading your copy....

    Matt

  • I could imagine that even in Jamaica this would be a difficult title to get (at least on an original pressing). I'm sure Coxsone must have reissued it at least once over the years

  • tears on my iceberg, tears in my iceberg.

  • Really interesting and surprisingly good. This hybrid of Jamaican and American culture works for me

  • A typical Studio One arrangement of a"soft tune" back in the day.

  • @PJDooWop

Very good point. And it was also more common during this time for many artists to cover other artists' songs as well.

In any case, this is NOT a ripoff. Marley and company are doing their own thing with this tune.

  • @PJDooWop I understand bro, but when White artists/groups do covers of Black songs, they call it a 'rip off', so, in all fairness, this went both ways. If Dion covered a Bob Marley song, he'd say the same thing. It is what it is...just keepin' it fair.
