Newport RI, Brenton Point and Lookout Tower ~ Dec 29, 2010

Hubby and I went down to Newport RI today to Brenton Point. One of our favorite places to visit. There was strong wind blowing off the ocean. We had plenty of layers on to keep us warm.
Brenton Point:
Occupying the former grounds of one of Newport's grandest estates, Brenton Point State Park affords its visitors one of the most commanding and spectacular views on the East Coast. The park is located at the point of land where Narragansett Bay meets the Atlantic, midway along renowned Ocean Drive. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, hiking, fishing, or just relaxing with the cool breezes and majestic views of the Atlantic.

Today we explored the trails behind the restrooms area,, we found an old abandon building from the 19th century which was an old stable and a lookout tower which was once a Windmill.. The view was great from the top. I am looking forward to going back come spring to see all the song birds, butterflies and flowers. We had such a great day!!

We had a great time at the Tower,,, we went back this summer as well,, it looked so different with all the vegetation filled out. Sorry for not getting back sooner-no we don't live in that area. We originally lived in the Boston . We re-discovered Newport and I was hooked on a tower in town which raises all sorts of questions re: its origin. The inside of the tower is more interesting even than the outside & spurs all sorts of interest in who,what when ,where & how.There is no easy answer to this puzzle and if you think you have the answer to those questions the truth will elude you.
