Part 5. Copyright BBC Films and UK Film Council. 2005 Film starring Hugh Dancy, John Hurt, and Clare-Hope Ashitey. I OWN NOTHING.

Based on a true story. An exhausted Catholic priest (Hurt) and a young idealistic English teacher (Dancy) finds themselves caught in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. They must now choose whether to stay with the thousands of Tutsis about to be massacred or to flee for safety.

  • @lamlyn Good ridence to this stupid film council!

  • Ah you are right, well done :) still an appallingly tragic event. It's not a cheap jibe at Cameron or Tories, if any party had done it, i would have said the same thing. Loads of people are mourning the gradual dismantling of the British film industry. When you consider how many truly brilliant actors and actresses we have it just seems an utter waste. Shooting Dogs is one of the best examples.

  • @lamlyn what about Cambodia under the Khmer rouge regime. 2 million "undesirable" cambodians died in that genocide.

  • @TheJinkedful I think it's relavant actually, and it's not cheap. It doesn't matter what party or government does it. The UK Film Council is responsible for making great films like this to remind us about these atrocities and it is being terminated. I think it's a shame because this is a great interpretation of the appalling events that went on in the genocide. I've not written anything to diminush the tragedy. 1 million died, the largest genocide since the holocaust! I'm not stupid.

  • @lamlyn "I'm in the midst of watching a film about one of the worst crimes against humanity in history... I know, I'll use this as an opportunity to score an ignorant and cheap political point."

  • @TheJinkedful thanks for that enlightening response. I'll feel so invigorated and grateful when i express free though next time :)

  • @lamlyn you are an utter arse.

  • And David Cameron is ending the UK Film Council!! Thankyou so much 'Dave'.
