which one will actually allow you to pedal backwards? like when u pedal fowards it goes and when you pedal backwards it goes

I put a brand new ACS Claw onto my Fixie. I have read on a few different sites that they need to be opened up and lubed otherwise they will go bad fast. Now these postings were all from 2004 to 2008. Today it is 2011. So, do you know if I still need to do this or not?
