In September 1923, Elmer Snowden started a group known as the Washington Black Sox Orchestra. The orchestra was created when Snowden got a contract to play at the Hollywood Club in New York. The name of the group was shortened to The Washingtonians. Due to financial disagreements, Snowden was voted out of his own group and Edward "Duke" Ellington was elected as the new leader. They played at the Manhattan for over a year until the club was shut down for repairs. When the club reopened as The Kentucky Club, the band name became Duke Ellington and the Kentucky Club Orchestra although they continued to record as the Washingtonians until 1929 in what they called their "Jungle" sound, so called because of the unique sound of Bubber Miley's "Plunger" trumpet.

Take It Easy was recorded in 1928 on the Cameo, Pathe Actuelle, Brunswick and Perfect labels. This recording is from the Brunswick cut made March 21, 1928 in New York.

  • A real video, real music, great to see, it's a shame something as rediculous as boy eats own boogers gets more hits than somthing as classic as this!!

    Much respect

  • @joeltremlett Says a lot about the sorry state of our country, doesn't it? Thanks for your comment.

  • @joeltremlett Comedy knows no bounds such as genre, unlike music. That is why videos like the one mentioned become viral and get more views.

  • @CodeNameTyphoon I still don't think it speaks well for Western Society when Boy Eats Boogers, filthy language and other such fishing in the pond scum is even considered comedy.

  • @preservationhall01 if it's funny, it's funny... I think it speaks well that we can laugh at such simple things. Shows that we're not stuck up and think too full of ourselves.

  • Muchas gracias por compartirlo.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this fantastic music :)

  • Thanks for this great post. Loved the record labels!
