Clip from October 7, 2010, Morning Joe (Scarborough) Show, where Politico Executive Editor, Jim VandeHei, reveals casting-call back story about new West Virginia political ad for Republican senatorial candidate John Raese against his opponent, Democrat Joe Manchin for senate. The ad turns out to have been shot with actors, from a script, in Philadelphia. But not just any actors: 'We are going for a Hicky [Hickey, Hick] Blue Collar look,' read the casting call for the ad, being aired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The casting call also said "These characters are from West Virginia so think coal miner/trucker looks." Just more Republican contempt for working people and the common man.

  • Let us not forget the not-so-subtle digs the mainstream media has made against West Virginians since they went red in the .08 election. To feign concern for the dignity of people they clearly think themselves to be above is seems very disingenuous. Let's not forget it was not Raese or the GOP who used the term, but the dumbass talent agency who cast the actors.

  • @daggy174, Not to mention Dick Cheney, who famously said, "We had Cheneys on both sides of the family [pause] and we don't even live in West Virginia, but [laughing] you can say those things when you're not running for reelection." Which, of course, partially explains why Dick Cheney is the way he is.

  • @weirsoccer6, A follow-up to my previous post making fun of your debt/deficit ignorance. According to David Stockman, RONALD REAGAN'S Budget Director, in a July 31, NY Time Op-Ed: "When it [the national debt] reaches $18 trillion, it will be 40 times greater than in 1970. This debt explosion has resulted not from big spending by the Democrats, but instead the Republican Party’s embrace, about three decades ago, of the insidious doctrine that deficits don’t matter if they result from tax cuts."

  • @electricguitarplayr, I get it. Bush's largest tax cuts in history should have been bigger AND THEN they would have worked AND THEN the 2000s wouldn't have been the only modern decade with a negative stock market and flat jobs growth. I suppose the record stock market growth (DJIA from 3,255.99 to 10,587.60) and job growth (22 million new jobs) under Clinton were because of his huge tax cuts. Oh, no, that's right, he RAISED TAXES. C'mon, get a clue (or at least tell us what you're smokin').

  • We gave our blood for labor and we give our blood for American energy

  • John rease is a carpetbagger I voted 3rd party in 2010

  • And if you hate wv leave and go talk trash like these biggots!

  • Haha they couldn't even dress them like rednecks disrespectful fucks we are the ones who colonized the land you live on and you spit in our faces I fucking hate you. Jerks.

  • I think it is bad that is how politics think they can get votes...just because it is how they perceive WV citizens, doesn't mean it is accurate.

  • Im ashamed to live in WV. I want to move back to Virginia so bad

  • Well, you're likely in the same boat as WV, then. Hi personal income/business/cap. gains taxes, UAW/AFL-CIO, et al, sending/deflecting jobs elsewhere. Still applies to you, whether it's Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, etc... My family in MI says they're having to surface some state/county roads with gravel. Of course, when your major industries are leaving and the unemployment rate us approaching 20%. it's hard to establish a decent tax base, isn't it? Have it your way; works very well.

  • @daggy174, that'll be tough to do, because I live in the midwest.

  • @insightbites If you're the last one out of the state, please make sure you turn off the lights!

  • @insightbites: Actually, I couldn't vote for Raese, as I no longer reside in WV. I like Manchin as governor, but "Governor" and "Senator" are extremely different positions. We'll see if Joe holds true to what he says about Cap & Trade, for instance, or if he goes with the Dems. My money is on the second one. I left WV because the economy was horrible, the infrastructure was abysmal and taxes were outrageous. As long as WV remains married to one party, she will always be taken for granted.
