Once upon a time, in a faraway land,
A young Prince lived in a shining castle
Although he had everything his heart desired,
The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind.
But then, one winter's night, an old beggar-woman came to the castle,
And offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold.
Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the Prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away,
But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances,
For beauty is found within.
And when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melted away
To reveal a beautiful Enchantress.
The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late,
For she had seen that there was no love in his heart.
And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous Beast, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there.
Ashamed of his monstrous form, the Beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world.
The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year.
If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return,
By the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken.
If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.
As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope.
For who could ever learn to love a Beast?

This opening is amazing, so many childhood memories!!

  • Guys and gals, I'm ecstatic about how much attention has been given to this.Thank you for all of your heartwhelming comments!! Pay attention to my page as I am going to post a medley of all the orchestral music from Disney very soon, and from there, you will be able to order my 5 piano transcriptions of the orchestral finales of Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin, and Little Mermaid which I completed writing last month! Stay tuned! Disney forever!

  • Some notes for anyone having trouble reading along: in the above performance, mlr2107 skips beats 3-4 of measure 33, all of measure 34, 38, & 40-41. In measure 39 he plays the single notes written (D, C, B, G) in bass clef as octaves.

Also, he skips the bass clef 16th notes at the end of measure 56 and just plays the low A octave at the beginning of measure 57 while the right hand continues the trebel clef line. Measures 28 & 32, during beats 2-4 he does not play the right hand harmony.

  • @Sarandib22 nice analysis :)

  • @NethNix13 Or maybe Alan Menken because he never dreamed that this music could sound so good on the piano by itself...

  • @mlr2107 Your transcription work and piano is excellent. Am I missing it, or have you transcribed this "Prologue/Enchantress" piece into piano form? I found the "Transformation" work on your site, but not this "Prologue."

  • You should do a tutorial to this! I cant find music to this anywhere! i would love you forever!
