For the first time in six years, Goodwill of Southern Nevada opened a full-scale Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center, at 9385 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, 89147, on the corner of South Fort Apache and West Flamingo.
The new retail store opened to shoppers at 9am on Friday, June 1, 2012, following a brief ribbon cutting. Media and the public are invited to attend. The new drive-thru donation center at the south side of the building opened on Saturday, May 19 at 7am.
"We are thrilled to provide shoppers and donors a Goodwill store location in the Southwest part of the Valley," said Goodwill of Southern Nevada CEO Steve Chartrand. "The opening of this store marks the ninth full-scale Goodwill Retail Store in Southern Nevada and will further our mission of helping put people back to work in our community, no matter their barrier to employment or disability."
More than thirty people have been hired to work at the new Goodwill Fort Apache Retail Store, and - like all Goodwill Retail Stores -- revenue from the sale of gently used items at the new store will be used to fund Goodwill of Southern Nevada's job placement and training programs. Last year, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped 1,255 local individuals find employment and provided services to more than 8,000.
About the Goodwill Fort Apache Retail Store & Drive-Thru Donation Center:
The new Goodwill Fort Apache Retail Store has a 12,000-square foot sales floor, featuring a wide variety of gently used merchandise, like men's, women's and children's clothing, shoes, accessories, housewares, electronics and furniture. Just like at all other Goodwill Retail Stores, customers never pay sales tax.
The store also has a drive-thru donation center on the south side of the building to provide donors a quick and convenient option for dropping off donations of gently used goods. In 2011, Goodwill of Southern Nevada kept 14 million pounds of donated goods and recyclables out of landfills.
In addition, the new store will serve as a training location for Goodwill of Southern Nevada's Community Based Training program, which uses "real-world" work environments to assess and develop specific work skills for those with disabilities.
Store Hours: Monday through Friday, 9am to 9pm; Saturday & Sunday, 10am to 6pm
Drive-Thru Donation Center Hours: 7am to 8pm everyday
