Of course for people who don't have the money to buy a new club, I'd use a foot wedge, kick it out on to the fairway then it take my shot and putt for birdie. No penalty stroke since who in their right mind would put a cart path on a beautiful golf course.

This is not the correct way to determine relief. You must first mark the spot where the club is grounded to determine relief. Only after than can you take a club length.
