Introduction
Welcome to the JJ Culpepper's Accompaniment Series 1. I'm JJ Culpepper, a musician from the Philadelphia, Delaware, and New Jersey area. I play Bass for two South Jersey bands: April Mae and the June Bugs, AprilMaeAndTheJuneBugs.com and Pinewolf and the Pack, PinewolfAndThePack.com . I also play drums for The Missing Keys reverbnation.com/TheMissingKeys and perform as a solo act. jjculpepper.com playing harmonica bass and drums as a one man band,
I recently set up a home studio and started recording my demos, real basic stuff, simple drum parts, the bass grove, and a vocal track. I also laid down some standard blues patterns that I am currently using to practice other instruments, Guitar, Harmonica, and Keyboards.
I have decided to post these tracks to my reverbnation.com/jjculpepper site as a free download and will be adding files regularly. This series is not for the novice musician. It is intended for people who have a basic knowledge of their instrument and want some way to improve the improvisational skills. This Accompaniment Series is not intended for professional use and should not be transferred by any other means.
Not an Excuse, but...
Now just keep in mind, that I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel or impress anyone with intricate bass runs and complicated drum parts and I have not spent a lot of time in the editing these files. I've just laid down some standard blues patterns to practice with. I am though, playing to a click so the timing will be somewhat consistent but still have a live feel.
Short Explanation
The beginning of each track will start with an introduction, explaining the pattern, key and tempo. For example: "A One Four Five, 12 Bar shuffle In the key of (A) at 138 beats per minute." The numbers (ONE FOUR FIVE) refer to the relative note based off the key. In the key of (A), the One=(A), the Four=(D), and the Five=(E). The number of bars, (12 Bar), indicates how many measures in the repeating pattern.
