Hawaii is the planet's most isolated land mass. The irony is that we are so far away from everything that we depend on fossil fuels from half a world away for our energy. The truth is that we're just as close to the sun as anyone on Earth. See what kind of progress we, as an island, are making toward harnessing the sun's power - while leaving the planet in better shape than when we arrived. The modern day equivalent of harnessing the sun is found in solar panels, and using the sun as a renewable energy resource. After taking a tour of the Makena Resort's Wastewater Reclamation Facility, we saw sunlight being turned directly into power. The Dowling Company's Makena Resort is in Phase One of it's goal to be a net-zero energy facility and totally self-sufficient. Maui TV News reporter Jeff King files this report.
