Is Obama's Stimulus Package Socialism in Disguise?

How is it a stimulus package to jolt this economy when most of it won't be spent at all on the economy in the near future?

Obama says the bill contains no pork. But here's this contradicts him.

1.)the bill contains the most expensive earmark in history $2 billion for an emission power plant.

2.)$88 million for polar icebreaker for coast guard.

3.)$600 million for hybrid cars for federal employees.

4.)$850 million for Amtrak

Maybe Obama needs to re-examine the bill himself.

His stimulus package is ridiculous. Our country would be better by doing nothing. he has no clue as to how to run this country. Leave it to the economists. Stupid lawyers should not be allowed to run our country. Business people should be running our country. Not a stupid lawyer.

@gsummerford With Barrack Obama's Stimulus Package, we are averaging 400k new jobs every quarter. Just this quarter we have created a total of 400k jobs. Plus we have already payed off 731.9B of the original 787B. You need to spend to get the economy rolling. Just sitting there and not spending money on the economy won't do anything. Yes the governments size increased, but what do you expect? We got into this mess because we did not have enough government regulation.

America is like a sophomore college student already drowned in debt. Is it better to drop out of college and get a low paying job or get more loans and try to graduate hoping to get a better job after graduation ? Which one do you think will get this student out of this mess quicker ? ( Just so everyone knows I'm no economist but as far as I've read many mainstream economist(mostly Keynesians) support stimulus package, some even saying it's not enough).

in indiaiana every road you drive on is being repaved thanks to the stimulus. the problem is the current EPA director shut down 1 of only 2 factories that are lisenced to make highway paint. so none of our roads have strips. the contractors cant get paid until the job is done, and the jobs cant be finished until they get highway paint. i wonder how many contractors will go bankrupt waiting on paint?

Many many people are going to be very surprised by how little this is going to help. Many people hoping for change are just going to see the same old same old and be heartbroken. I can not believe Obama could not figure out something better than this. One rule of business is to let people weed themselves out if they are poor managers. The strong survive and we need that. Also, why import beef from Canada or lamb from N.Z or anything from China? Get some businesses going here and buy American.

i would not even give them that much credit. maybe in the sewer systems somewhere. probably in asia.

I dont tend to lean one way or another but rather enjoy deciding for myself on issues. The idea of letting someone else think for me is terrifying, given the nature of our species as a whole. Of course when it comes to government there are issues that i have no voice in. But my mind is always free to think for itself. I suppose that death will be at which point that ceases.
