"Sita Sings the Blues" is based on the Hindu epic "The Ramayana". Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina Paley is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of torch singer Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told." It is written, directed, produced and animated by American artist Nina Paley.

women feel pain when they are unloved just as men do and they are entitled to expressed that pain just as men do in whatever form they choose just as men do. Its not a story about men, its a story about love and how sita and nina felt. I didn't hate Rama, I felt sorry for him that he lost his love at the end, but all was well after death. I didn't think the film was male bashing, it just focus more on the female characters than the male. Which doesn't happen a lot in films it is refreshing.

The 'recommended reading' section in the credits made me smile. I never thought of film as a form of communication, but this feels so personal.

That was fantastic information. I found this because my pal grew to be a lady-magnet He went from zero to hero. He behaved as if it was natural for quite a while. He then smiled and told me when he was drunk. He mentioned he learned from the Jake Ayres Master Attraction Formula. Google it and you will get it... He's dating a beauty...

Marvelous............but I am wondering if the director ever watched the Adventures of Prince Akmed from the 1920s.

as a person who doesn't think being a film ciritic gives one's opinions any more weight, I already have, and it's full of people praising a horrible movie just because it's stylistically different.
