I know Carlton sucked, and they couldn't lace up Thames' shoestrings but isn't Granada most responsible for the crappy ITV1 we've been stuck with since 2002? They were the ones who started buying all the regions and even before they took Carlton over, they decided the direction ITV has gone.

I like watching these idents. I'd certainly prefer seeing them to the ITV1 idents of today! I don't understand what all the fuss is all about when comes to reading the Carlton logo, I can spot the T no problem.

Yeesh, there sure are a lot of videos on Carlton...

The idents of Carlton and HTV are cool

The design genius Martin Lambie-Nairn is behind this ident. The T is small so that the name can morph into London. Regional TV's remit was to reflect the region it served which beggars the question why change it.
This ident was unique in the fact that two seperate designers produced it. The main ident (the good bit) Lambie-Nairn whereas the itv logo produced by the now defunct English and Pockett. Oddly enough, Carlton was a miserable replacement for Thames and did not make its own programes.

Oh, and I should not have said Thames, mainly because it stopped broadcasting in 1992.

I would like to know how these idents were made, I can't tell whether some elements of this ident are CGI or live action.

Andrew Wiseman from 625 said he could imagine a cheap logo creator making the CARLTON logo, mistaking it for CARLON, hence the small T.
-
I think that the T been smaller is slightly ridiculess though. It makes it look like it says CARLON.

Its suprising that CARLTON made the Thames, Westcountry and CENTRAL regions in the corporate way. It would be much better if it was the regions name with the CARLTON font and the star was replaced by the region logo. Also, their own soundtrack could be used. If I had the software, I would of probally made examples of them by now.
The ident is good, but ITV is dead...

It's a shame. ITV is going down the path we never expected. IMO ITV is a goner.
