In terms of words, the world's largest book is the Tipitaka or Buddhist Canon with tens of thousands of suttas or discourses. In this case it is also large because much of the Tipitaka has been carved into 729 huge marble tablets each housed in its own Pagoda. This large and beautiful work was done in the mid 19th century under King Mindon following a Buddhist Council to ensure that all the Buddha's words were recorded accurately. Unfortunately the British forces looted much of the treasures but the words remain.

  • Awe inspiring ...for the love of Buddha! has the canon been translated into English? do you know the name of the book?

  • The full pali canon is a massive size. As far as I know only a small proportion has been translated. Much of it cannot be understood even ihn translation, but requires meditation practice to reach wisdom. Do searches for "vipassana meditation goenka" and "access to insight" for more info.

  • Wisdom Publication or Snow Lion Publication has completed translation of main texts of the Tripitaka into English .. do search the website of these 2 Buddhist publications ... you should find them !!

  • Snow Lion Publication has a 3 volume set of condensed Tipitaka (called Tripitaka there).

  • Not boring to those that seek to understand.

  • That's about the size of my notepad.

  • @Daligang I thought it was understanding women pocket edition

  • The book is called "How to please a woman" and it has 99 volumes, they stopped making them though because they don't have enough time until the end of this millennium to get to the first date.

  • Oh the great Buddha! Pause at 2:00 and you will see a PERSON!!!

  • The most valuable writings in earth! I only became Buddhist after reading Buddha's masterpiece!
