Here's an A- performance. My left hand was getting tired and cranky towards the end. According to the margin notes, the first measure is from a passage in the third act of Lohengrin.

  • the whole thing is supposed to be spiccato. you need to bounce the bow, that makes it alot harder

  • Oh, so THAT'S what all those little dots are for!

  • how long have you been playing cello

  • Are you serious dude? give the guy a break!

  • Great job! You are doing the right thing: get the notes in the string first, then let the spiccato come on its own later.

For your left hand, try sinking and feeling the weight of your arm on the string - it will lessen your tendency to grip and you won't tire out as soon.

Your bowing looks good from what's visible - just remember to stay close to the next string you're about to play. Once your bow crossings are economical enough, the spiccato will come no problem.

    Nice!

  • Nice job. I remember learning/playing this. I can almost play it up to tempo. Like everyone else said, it needs to be spiccato (bounced).

  • Ha ha, I like these guys saying "What, no spiccato?". We look forward to seeing YOUR videos of the Etude!

For anyone who doesn't know, sneesflas is doing something barely human here by actually playing all the notes -- there are very few players anywhere who can do the bouncing bow the score asks for AND keep control. Let's get real here :-)

  • very beautiful. David Popper is one of my fevorite composers and personally I think he is a genius. You did good on this. I would like to see some of the other 39. I myself would not attempt to play number 13.

  • Very good job. I would suggest you relaxed your left hand. so you wont get tired any more.

    Very good. keep posting

    :)
