Rams continue to roll
The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team kept up its hot play Saturday afternoon at Kerr Hall, dropping York 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) and extending its winning streak to four.
The first set was exciting from the first point as Logan McClevis (Hillsburgh, Ont.) hammered home a kill to open the scoring for Ryerson. The Rams opened up a quick 13-7 lead behind the serving of Luka Milosevic (Toronto), but watched the Lions roar right back with a run of their own. With the score 21-17 Ryerson, Devin Rattie's serving powered York on a 7-0 run to take a 24-21 lead. The Rams responded with four straight points before Greg Marszalek (Braeside, Ont.) powered home a kill for the Rams final point in a 26-24 win.
The second set was less dramatic as Ryerson was able to ride its blocking and defense to a 25-17 win. Although they trailed early in the third set, Ryerson was able to open up an 18-12 edge midway through the game before cruising to a 25-19 victory.
Chris McLaughlin (Ottawa) was a force all day for Ryerson, recording 15 kills and 21 points. Marszalek added seven points on seven kills, while Milosevic recorded three aces. York was led by 11 kills and 11 points from Phil Charron (Ottawa), while Reid Hall (Georgetown, Ont.) also had 11 points on 10 kills.
The winning streak has come at a critical time for the Rams, who see their record improve to 7-6 in the midst of a tightly-packed OUA playoff race. Ryerson will hit the court again tomorrow against cross-town rival Toronto (6-7). With 12 points on the year, the Blues will be looking to gain ground on Ryerson, who sits tied with both Laurier and Waterloo at 14 points. York falls to 2-12, and will return home to play Queen's (10-3) on January 23.
