  • Many valid points, IMO. I used to have a strong opinion about TV as yourself, but now I tend to think that it's much more about understanding the device we're using, and turning into a real tool. And I honestly think it´s absolutely possible, if you put yourself in front of it with wide enough opened eyes and ears. The key, you offered it yourself: self-control. Self and control and understanding of that tool, and your TV won´t probably need to be out of your window.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • fly TV, fly like the wind!

  • u sir, I respect for u being who u are and expressing what's in ur mind.

  • You made great points in this video. I haven't watched a show on television in months. I find youtube to be a lot more interactive and educational than regular television because people can post comments and video respond to others. My parents are always asking me to go out to a movie with them, but I tell them that I find it boring these days because I can't interact with the people on the other side of the screen and share ideas and opinions about what's happening in the world.

  • You put this all very well. I'd just avoid boiling it down to "Mtv," because believe me, as someone who watches some TV (with self control) and has a sister lost to it, the consumerism is rampant on every channel, even if Mtv was at the forefront of selling the TV as a countercultural icon.

  • Thanks for the post. Yes, TV bugs/disturbs me too; but its pernicious effects say much more about us than about TV itself. Without people, TV becomes inert. Why does the most egregious crap show up on TV? Because people watch it. TV speaks to us in an organic way that's amazing. And that's McLuhan's point: media, especially electronic media, are extensions/expressioins of ourselves. The challenge is learning to live with it and its effects.

  • After a second thought, maybe you´re right. TV definitely lacks that hugely useful human feature called "interaction"... ;-)
