good barrel, big wave, but I wouldn´t call it an exceptional barrel..it´s not like he came out a deep pit, riding the foamball..

@wsktke People have no idea how heavy Pipe is with that reef "right there". It's already killed great surfers, photographers and the unwary. This wave is sick.

FAIL !! That was a weak ass tube even for his standards. Derek is very short and skinny too so he makes any wave look big !

@wsktke Greetings from New Zealand bro! I agree 100% with what you say wsktke. Brad Asmus used to tell me about his brother Dick lifeguarding at Pipe and how the lifeguards were trained to give last rights because its so dangerous - skulls split open from ear to ear. Many people have no idea of the forces involved from only seeing tiny little pictures on YouTube. Stay safe brah! A surfer down here in New Zealand can hold his breath almost 7 minutes (he has gills!!!).

@clarkewi I know this spot all to well I myself had my wipeouts almost drowning on a third reefer. Everyone on this video talking about him barely getting barreled or its not that epic should relax cause you wouldnt dare jump out on a day like this. You gotta also consider the angle of this shot of course its not gonna look like hes really deep and look how big the barrel is its not a tight fit so hes gonna be very visible at this angle. Ive lost friends to this wave also.

That has to be one of the widest tubes ever ridden. Look at the direction the foamball is moving - UP the face and out the back of the wave. Sick.
