The next installment of the series, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), is slated to be released in 2011 or 2012 in North America, for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, the Grand Theft Auto to be released simultaneously on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms. There is some degree of debate over the nature of exclusivity of episodic content now confirmed to be released for GTA5 sometime in 2011 - 2012. Microsoft officially announced a strategic alliance with Rockstar Games over the rights to episodic content through their Xbox Live service at their X06 event.
