  • You're right- he doesn't... and that's why this is funny. Elliot was kind of a 'meta-comic' in the 80's, and ahead of his time in a lot of the characters he did. At that time, every comic was doing the same stand-up routine and we were flooded with impressions- most were good at imitating the target but failed to be funny. Part of this character from Elliot is a parody of 'comedians doing impressions' imho.

  • You who don't get it have to be kids. What Chris does is a postmodern kind of comedy, not the hit-you-over-the-head kind in most comedy films today. The comedy is in how over-the-top it is. Anything other than brash, profane, obvious humor doesn't seem to resonate with today's audience.

  • That;s the point. It's so absurd, that's why it;s funny. Like he says, the audience can either laugh or sit there and be baffled. Chris Elliott: Either you get him or you don't.
