@EuropaWill Not sure witch one is a C model.. But my bike is rated at 50Hp 04 year, and 50 hp @ 8500 rpm ( rear tire 44.8 hp @ 8500 rpm ) one site said. Yes the tank is larger, But that doesn't change the fuel use. The better the fuel the more MPG, That is how it works for my bike. I think Kawasaki underrated this bike a bit ?? yl

@ylism I'm guessing the different carb's require a different tune on the entire system. That might explain why the 500A's have 50hp and the 500C's have less (I think 46hp). I also can hear audible differences on exhaust sound with the 500A's sounding more throaty and the 500C's sounding more reserved and quiet. Its possible this was all done to make the 500C more economical at the pump. The 500C's larger tank really extends the range even more. I wish I could fit a 4 gallon tank on my EN500A!

@EuropaWill Just checked my gas mileage tonight, This was after a long ride, Into the mountains, Some very steep places. Went 160 miles on 2.4 tenths US gallons, and filling the tank to almost overflowing. It came out to 66.66666666666667 MPG. Didn't fill the tank that much last time around. So at the very least, It did v-good. I use the same pump just about every time. I like the gauges on your bike better, and the rims also. There is a difference in the carb's type, Mine is Keihin CVK32 x 2. ?

@EuropaWill Ny It's a 2004. Well it's not because I am so light weight, Me & gear 230 lbs. I do use gas from the same place, I have found ,That some gas is not so good. So I stick with what works best. Tire air PSI is a big thing. Run a little high, It seems to help. I need a new air cleaner, I still get close to 60mpg. I think they changed the carb's size after your year. No air-box mods thou. Try to maintain speed & keep it, That's hard in mountains. Have a large windshield & bags. Stock bike.

@ylism what year is your EN500? Mine is 1993 and i get around 45-50mpg usually and that is riding fairly conservitively. Anything you noticed that makes a big difference in your mpg's?
-
My 1993 EN500a has done 105mph in 6th gear and was still accelerating when I decided that was fast enough for me and then backed off. I'm sure it's capable of hitting 115mph but I'm not that interested in testing its true top speed limits. I should also point out everything is stock except for an aftermarket windshield. I get around 45-50mpg on average.

@ylism Also, forgot to mention, I've got 30k miles on it, well worn-in, but garage kept and well serviced. A loose belt didn't help matters, nor did saddlebags. No smoke, and no use of oil as far as I can tell. No leaks, either.
-
I was using premium due to the high compression, but plus is a VERY nice balance between better MPG and lack of knock. I'm now averaging '50s with a passenger and somewhat spirited riding and city driving.

@bedsheetmonkey Sounds like mine. Did yours start after a oil & filter change, Mine did, Same area for sounds. This seems to be normal problem for Kawasaki bikes. There's a webpage on "oil filter burping" to help with that, It happens at changing only. Sometimes they get air trapped in the lines, and if not fixed fast can do damage, They say not to fill the filter with oil when replacing it. I did as norm, The oil light went out fast. Mine not as loud now. Marval mystery oil is good to add. yl
My En500 says EX500 on the motor pad, Is this right or did they run out of EN 500 blocks and use the Ninja block. I have a ? Just changed the oil and the motor seems to be louder now, With a ticking noise around the top part. It now has 5K + miles do the valves need adjusting at this point ? Or does the oil filter have to high PSI of release spring. Need help, Have another filter I may try. I read some of the filters made in Mexico are suspect.
I learned afterwards. Mine is made in Mexico.

@ylism My engine also has EX500 vin # on the block, I was wondering the same thing, I guess if you call Kawasaki they can tell you. I haven't gotten around to calling yet myself. I have a tapping noise myself, and never considered the oil filter... mine sounds like it comes from the left side, either from the valves or the cam chain. the repair manual says the valves have to be checked at 10K miles. the tapping is usually loud when the bike is started (cold) and goes away as the bike warms up.

My EN 500 will do 100mph easy, and that's with a windshield. There's just no need to go that fast thou. It's a good bike for the longer trips. I get 66mpg. I read they would get around 50 mpg ,Mine does way better. Is that normal to get 65+ mpg ?
ylism 6 months ago
@ylism yea i've read in a lot of places that it's about 50-55mpg, but i have seen other people say they got 65. Before i did a bunch of repairs on mine i was getting like 45mpg, but now i'm getting around 55mpg. I think theres a lot of factors that go into it, weight/size of rider, condition of the engine/carbs/sparkplugs/etc...
