'Tis me Mother's cousin, Jack... She passed away almost 1 year ago... She had many recordings of Jack, telling her about the "old days", and her heritage... She would surely have shed a tear if she had seen this...

@21fitz Is that in Kerry?
-
@Pagra50 it was believed that holding the singer's hand would prevent them from being taken away by the fairy people. Also, what AyeYirMa has said.
-
@melomaniac28 That's what you do in proper sean-nós.
-
@Pagra50 It's something that goes along with the culture of sean-nós singing, when you're holding someone's hand in circles like that, you're literally 'winding the person' and the song on, when the tempo or the song gets faster or they hit a higher note, you raise you're arm, it's rhythm but it's how music is a massive part of irish community, it's not an outside aspect, unity sorta thing (:

Extaordinary. There is something in that film that vaugely reminiscent. I once saw something similar at a party whete the singer was singing an Irish song, in English. But he was griiping the hand of another man and singing with his eyes closed. Is that something that is common in Sean Nos singing ?

@rLadyoftheBlowtorch They still go silent in Ireland... but mainly the songs are sung at last call so people enjoy it as a last "event" before leaving
a handsome race by face and soul
