The stick shift just broke with a snapping noise and the car was immobile. It had to be towed. It cost $475 to repair. It was out of commission for five days. The cable was surely defective as the other cable works perfectly. GM owe us for the cost of replacing a defective item and our expenses as a result?

  • Hey...be glad, A LOT of people get jabbed with two or three TRANSMISSIONS when the problem is in the shifter. My first shifter problem was the SPRING PIN on the transmission side of the shifter SHEARED off on either side of the shaft that goes into the transmission. After about 30 hours of futzing with it I ended up grinding it out with a dremel...except I didn't get it all out in the middle and my replacement pin jammed in about 2/3 the way...no in, no out. It mostly works...

  • i wish i would have never bought our saturn vue. what a mistake. i'm dealing with that same problem for the 2nd time.

  • It's so sad that a repair for such a small item should cost that much a cable no less . I once needed a tensioner for my '97 Chevy Venture and was quoted $419.00. by a Chevrolet Dealer for the repair, being that the vehicle was initially in on a recall I asked the service manager to give me a moment to make a decision. I called Auto Zone and they had the part in stock for $28 bucks, it took me 12 minutes to replace. I no Longer Buy American.... Food for Thought.

  • I wish you would have shown more on the repair, or what part cost what and not your credit card bill. Mine broke on the drive home from purchase within 8 miles of taking ownership. It is a bad design to make a part that receives so much stress out of plastic and not metal.

  • Just purchased a used 2005 Saturn Vue. Within 3 hours my stick shift broke immobilizing the vehicle. It was frightening and discouraging. Talk about buyers remorse! All components are plastic and crappy. Hope this helps someone to consider the safety of this car.

  • That is a very unusual problem, I work in a NAPA store and I've never heard of this happening. It looks like the cables come as a set, but they are only connected in one place, which makes no sense at all. This type of cable is in use on many different cars and trucks and the same type is used to operate PTOs (power-take-off) with very few problems. I would think it would be a warranty problem, but with Saturn going under there's little chance that you'll get any help from them.
