Accident or Intellegent Design? Here we go; they start out with the classic Creationist false dichotomy. Marc Surtees would be proud.

"Oh noes!! The evil materialistic scientists are so arrogantly assuming that the Universe is limited to simplistic non-fantasies!"

The authors of Y-Origins seems to live in a world in which science has historically required Christianity to function.

This is one of the saddest arguments presented by Creationists because they are missing the magnificence that exists all around them. They believe that by looking at the their surroundings, imposing a supernatural origin (God, magic fairies, what have you,) and then being impressed by the imagined things supposed ability to create our existence makes their view somehow more enlightened then any non-biased investigation. The opposite is in fact true. Everything I have ever learned about science has been more exciting and more inviting than any story has ever been, whether it be from the pages of a religious text or an episode of "Star Trek". Even something as seemingly sterile as Calculus has provided me glimpses into a universe far more incredible than I could ever imagine.

Creationists wave their hands at all of that and instead pretend that the collimated efforts of millions of people over thousands of years is itself, a vague and unsubstantiated fable they call, Evolutionism, or in the case of Y-Origins, Materialism.

This argument is what began the downfall of VenomFangX. His arrogant assumptions that the existing scientific theories were so simple that an uneducated prick like him could challenge their validitys is part of what motivated him to invite Thunderf00t to a debate.

*Note: I know that I generalized the wide verity of religious beliefs, I needed to do that for brevity.

  • are you emailing y-origins these vids?

  • I've thought about it. Maybe after I get a few more.

  • Khayyam was an Atheist?

I always knew he was not very religious (he held eccentric views that sounded sufi), but not as an Athiest. interesting..I'll need to see about that.

*goes rechecking his materials on Khayyam*

  • I got your message. Sorry I have not responded. I read that he did not believe in a God. He was not a supporter of evolution, since the process was not understood. Let me know if he was a Theist.

  • I never said he accepted evolution-you must have confused one set of people (mu'tazila) with him, which he almost certainly wasn't-that at least I know for sure ;)

I'm done with research: Its inconclusive, so there is no need to change the information on video.

and as I said: it doesn't matter what he was, I was just surprised at the statement.

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you did. I studied mostly Western history, so that part of the video was a challenge for me. I just found the name of a scientist from a non Christian culture and read a few things about him.

  • I wish they could get over this fascination with scientists who last lived on the order of centuries ago... Aristotle and Plato were fairly smart chaps, so I guess I should believe in the Greek Pantheon?

  • Wiklepedia? ;)

    Nice work, keep 'em coming.

  • One half of the DNA-strand of my Mommy and one half of the DNA strand of my Daddy came together and made me.

I am so relieved they got the exact some base pairs sequence along all chromosomes or this could have really screwed me up :)

    .

But wait...this means my parents were clones of each other...

    Aaaaarrrrgghhhh!

  • "This is gonna be a loooong series" unfortunately not =(

  • Eh, I have to say something here. Newton did reject the church, but he did not reject God. In fact, God was the reason he did science. The idea that Christianity is just blind faith is cute, but far from reality.

  • No number of links to wikipedia or any other references will make an idiot into a genius if they can't comprehend the basic information presented. They get a B grade for using wikipedia links as they are usable for learning things, but they lose 75 points for not learning anything.

  • sorry for the late reply.

I understand what you mean: it is a very interesting area of study (middle eastern science/scientists from 700-1500); plenty of scientists from then, some darn brilliant, but tragically understudied in the west.

its part of the reason people think Islam destroyed middle eastern science in the middle ages :(

  • Mmmmmm, Bacon.
