  • Minor disturbances to hibernating bats don't usually wake them up. They wake up a time or two on their own during hibernation and then go back to sleep. If hibernating bats are found, leave them alone and don't go back again, which is what we did with this cave. We don't visit it in winter any more.

  • 3:53 "This sucks!"

  • come on, admit it, you loved it!

  • Sweet cave, what state? I do most of my caving in VA/WV. Gotta love the Stenlight! I always say,"Once yiu go Sten, you'll never go halogen again! CAVE ON! BROTHER!

  • Cheat Canyon, WV

  • nice job, guys. Surprising to see so many bats in what seems to be such a damp cave.

  • Yes, it really was a surprise. We've been going to that cave for years, in all seasons, and never seen that number of bats in there hiberating. We'll be avoiding it now in winter months to encourage continued usage for hibernation. Whether the cave is used for nursery colonies in the summer still remains to be seen...

  • Hehe the bats were cute

  • Nicely done.

  • it'd be so cold! hypothermia here we come! jeez, if there are ice formations in the caves that we do we generally decide not to do them! ... still, looks like fun :P I wonder what descending gear they're using...

  • i need to get to a point in life where i hav nothing to lose then i'll try it LOL

  • @SpartanW98 hehe, that cave is huge compared to some of the ones on the Mendips hils (Somerset, England). It's a great sport though, you should definatly give it a go!

  • Very much enjoyed the video. The outside terrain looks a lot like some of the areas we have here in E. Tennessee with the steep mountainsides and rhododendron shrubs. Looked up Loyalhanna Limestone and it seems this cave is somewhere in SW Penn. What are the average cave temperatures in that area. Around here they are about 55 degrees F. Also, what type of video camera were you using? It seems to perform fairly well in low-lighting. Thanks again for sharing you videos.

  • don't light the sleeping bats or they die ..so they told me.

  • Fantastic Video! Thanks for sharing :)

  • Cavers are crazy. When I want a rush with a slight chance of death, I choose heroin.
