  • Pretty interesting. I wonder what it was used for and how long it has been there. Yeah, I've never seen any dry stone walls like that here in the U.S.

  • the winters here are gnarly, sometimes 5 feet of snow. these walls keep the sheep alive with some protection from the winds and drifts. but now the whole place is big pine forest for miles, who knows how long these were around,

  • We still have some of these walls in central Texas, built by German settlers, but no one that I know of puts them up anymore -- it's just too expensive compared to other fencing but for the settlers, that wasn't so, and they were moving rocks anyway to create pastures.

The best walls I've seen were in the Lake District of England. I was told that they were built by French prisoners in the Napoleonic wars.

  • It looks good from a distance, but up close it looks hideous.

  • This a very interesting & informative video... amazing work to make the wall!

  • @notfireproofequipped you dont know

  • dry stone walls are very common in the balkans they used to build entire houses with this technic

    even roof tops

if you build it right will last...

  • @grizzwild1 the stones stood on end as you say are built like that on purpose, its a galloway dyke, the top section of wall is single course, thats why the stones are stood on end! Plenty fine stonework in scotland. You ever been there?

  • that is shit walling. stones stood on end. must be in scotland. for real class walling try northern england devon cornwall or even ireland.

  • stonework.yolasite

  • That's a galloway dyke I think, a double wall on the bottom and a single on top.

  • you should have been in norway, bergen :)
