Selma Kurz sings 'Ah fors'è lui' from La Traviata. Here she sings in original Italian text, however her "R" sounds "RR" to me, thus e.g. 'forrs'è lui'. Any comments from Italian?
Her Italian is clear and self-assured, but heavily accented all around. In Vienna, she sang everything in German, of course.
She was past her prime when this disk was made, the voice a bit hoarse in the lower middle register, but her phrasing is filled with exquisite detail nevertheless, with an unbelievable cadenza and an lovely portamento style. She was such an elegant, polished artist.
