This isn't that hard if you learn how to snake. The game is programmed to give you a speed boost when coming out of a hard turn. You can exploit this by holding L+Left then switching to R+Right and back and so on to zig zag across the track really fast. You can reach speeds must faster than constant boosting this way. Works best with heavy machines, but works with just about everyone. In story, most people run out there energy boosting before you ever touch it. :P

5 laps seems to be easier than 3... I've spent 4 years trying to beat this on normal, but I'm not the best at racing games in general.
