What mean iridium flare? Is that a satelit or ufo?
-
Jesus Christ, what was the magnitude?
-
What camera was used to record this please?
-
@kcksd10 yes they do. for many reasons. light from the sun hits them from below the horizon. maybe there is a cloud or mountain in the path of the light at the time. it is a coincidence, but it happens

do iridium flares ever flash more than once?
-
cool, this does explain many sightings but obviously not the ones that fly in formation, change direction, etc. thanks for adding this one.

its the antenna. solar panels are designed to absorb as much light as possible in order to be effiecient, not reflect it.
the iridum satellites have three wide looking antennas (compared to what we're used to) which have the ability to act as almost a perfect reflector when exposed to solar radiation at the right angle, hence the 'flare'.

I remember the first time I ever saw an iridium flare. I swore up and down that I had seen an UFO. After seeing it a few years later and doing more research I determined that this is what I've seen. Seriously cool though.
