Thank you so much for the info. I just got a pair for mine, tried them yesterday. I found that they fit well & do not bother him at all. I worked and rode him in the round pen and found the pastern wraps moved up off his bulb & bunched into the ankle of the boot! I think I need to tighten the wrap more or go 1 size smaller. But the boots fit fine. Again, thank you so much :) It has been greatly helpful!!!!

@Suzeqte That is great you got them- Ihave found, even though they may look clunky- the horses don't seem bothered by them and Matlock moves more fluidly with them on- just be careful to check that heal bulb until they get toughened up! Best to you- make a video of your training-= would love to see it!!!

@Suzeqte: sorry, 1 more- 4 of 4: The boot plus the little gel pad that goes inside will give great reliefe for a rocky terrain- my horses moves very well in them. Check to see- if the boot swirls around too much, go for a smaller size- matlock fits almost perfect between a size 2 and 3- depending on where he is in his trimming schedule. I do like Cavallos. phew! (believe me, i'm not one who has a tough time talking! haha)

@jett888 3 of 3 for Suzeqte: Matlock has never had a problem with the rubbing on the back heel bulb, but I can see how it could be an issue. There are "Pastern protectors" they offer, but i found them a little useless as they don't stay in place very well- a sock with a hole cut on one end and slid over the entire pastern/heel buld may do just the same. The extra cushion these provide, along with the extra gel pad will give great relief for the barefoot horse.

@jett888 more for Suzeqte: These go well through water and I found they drain nicely- however, when i was competing in a 50 miler- and wearing these on my mare- who probably needed one size smaller- they did not do well when we went through deep sludge, and then powered up a steep hill- but in all fairness- they probably would have stayed on if we weren't racing. Allow the horse some time to build up a callouse or tolerance to the rubbing of the back heel bulb-

@Suzeqte LOL- I know, but i was actually just making it and sending it to the Cavallo people so they could assess whether or not these fit my horse. But i'll say something now: I like the Cavallos- they fit my horse Matlock well- who has a more rounded foot. I LOVE the huge velcro surface- and find, after awhile, you need to zip tie or somehow secure the smaller outter velcro straps down-but they still arent the ones that hold the whole shoe on.

Matlock placed 5th in his first 50 miler using the cavallo boots- a very rocky course- no problems or rubbing on him. My mare used the cavallos on one of her 50's during a 3 day ride- too much rubbing, so had to pull the shoes and go barefoot. She still did well.
