DENVER - Ryan O'Reilly was credited with a bizarre goal 51 seconds into overtime following an errant clear by defenceman Dan Boyle, giving the Colorado Avalanche a 1-0 victory over San Jose on Sunday night and a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference series.

Avalanche netminder Craig Anderson was splendid in net all night, stopping 51 shots.

Nabokov didn't have much a chance on the winner. He was hugging the post when Boyle tried to send the puck around the boards as O'Reilly pursued him. The puck wound up sneaking in between Nabokov and the post.

Game 4 is Tuesday night in Denver.

@trisw182 Even though the Avs lost the series 4-2, they definitely got passing marks in their first year of the post Joe Sakic era. They're only going to get better as they continue gaining experience.

@mandingo9999998 I know right! It drives me crazy, I wish i could find the replay they showed several times before game 4 showing the angle that clearly 100% shows the puck coming off of Oreillys blade.

@avalanchefan42 well last year we had all those guys except hendricks & Tucker....Anderson couldnt stay healthy and was anything but what he was in this game when he was, Boods as much as i <3 him was his typical average self. Stewie had like 2 goals in a stretch of 20 games. Foote couldnt stay healthy nor Liles. Last year the Avs franchise set a new record with 400+ man games lost due to injury. That to me is the clear #1 reason they sucked. Cant find rhythm when the lines are never the same.

Escapes me why people keep saying he scored on his own net. He backhanded it to behind the net, and right as it came off his stick, if got deflected by O'Reillys stick.

Can make the case it was a sloppy play,

But he DID NOT SHOOT IT INTO HIS OWN NET.

@Lookin2Cool they got worse in their second year, we'll see about this one, but doesn't look good so far.
