Understand this method of training, and respect it, but I don't really like the clickers as most owners have an issue using them right. My RR and other dogs did well with just verbal/physical praise, and motivation. For major achievements and tricks, treats were used, but phased out to avoid bribery. I'm sure everything is used for demo only, but I really don't like seeing treat bags and clickers when a dog is fully trained as it leads me to believe the dog won't perform without them.

I agree, I don't use clickers and my Ridgebacks do very well with treats, verbal and hand commands.

They ARE stubborn - but that just means they have to have a REASON to do something :D The reason ? Positive reinforcement and love !

Having said that, mine is an absolute pansy :( haha

great clip and explanations. its so much easier for people to relax around big dogs when they can tell the owner has control, and a good sit/drop or shake hands is a quick way to do that. Savannah is a beautiful attentive girl

Thank you for clarifying that sit stay and down or not tricks but essential behaviors. Redefining descriptive words is a true sign of an expert. You keep on clicking, and teaching REAL tricks. I'll just keep my dog at my side to experience, well, everything.

This is how little you know about actually training a dog. Clickers are AWESOME for shaping new behaviors and letting the dog know when they did something right. The trick is timing and that's the number one thing you have to get down regardless of the training method. My Ridgeback will do anything for food and I use that for training him as well as positive reinforcement and a clicker. Sit, stay, etc. are NOT tricks...they are essential behaviors for your dog to know for so many reasons.
