Toilet Gardener

This is a video of me making a prototype for the Toilet Gardener, a planter that replaces the cover to your toilet reservoir, pulling moisture from the tank and making watering unnecessary.

For the prototype, I used a plastic seeding tray, but I think if someone produced a porcelain equivalent, sold along with a seed kit etc. (like the chia pet), they could make a lot of money.

I used grass seed, but the ideally the planter would grow herbs etc. creating a living potpourri.

We shall see. If in the long run, the grass only survives in a diagonal stripe across the tray, we will know that something needs to be done.

Thanks. I think it's doing pretty well. I actually threw in some herb seeds too the other day, so we shall see of those sprout.

holy crap dude! i had the same idea! i didnt think about the wick though, seems like a good idea, though i'm concerned the wick may grow mold and other bacteria, has yours?

Cool! that's really clever. If you put the wicks in the bowl instead of the tank the plants would get fertilized as well as watered.
