Because it's a personal letter from God to each of us, His child, individually, as well as all of us, His family, collectively.
A young father had a terminal illness but before he died he wrote a long letter to his infant son to read as he grew from childhood to manhood. The boy reads it as he grows up, gradually understanding more and knowing his father by the letter. Some parts he doesn't understand but Mom elucidates for him because she knew Dad. (The Church does that for us with Scripture.)
@thelamb777 "an act of OBEDIENCE"... Then if you intentionally do not get baptized, you are disobeying Jesus (Jesus said baptism is necessary to be saved (Mk16:16)). Therefore, you will not be saved.
Jesus did it in order to raise the ritual to the sacramental level. Before Him, John's baptism was symbolic, but since Jesus sanctified it with His own baptism, it now causes what it symbolizes (spiritual regeneration). It is an outward sign of an invisible reality.
@AmericanBerean Absolutely...Baptism, which is by immersion after a person is redeemed ALSO how John the Baptist did IT and Jesus Christ partook in IT, is an act of OBEDIENCE, not a work of salvation. You're misinterpreting John 3 aren't you?
@thelamb777 We cannot earn salvation (Jesus earned it for us), but we can earn to lose it. If, in faith, we accept the Gift, then have not works, our faith avails us naught (James) and we then are not saved. It's in that context that works are required, not in the sense of earning the Gift.
Jesus has saved everyone... in principal but not yet in application fully. His sacrifice is applied everytime a sinner repents and asks forgiveness.
@AmericanBerean The poor catholic people of this world are VICTIMIZED and ENSLAVED by their HARLOT CHURCH so much so that they could NEVER do a good work for Jesus Christ!...All of their hard work and life is spent on tirelessly trying to earn their REDEMPTION...NONE of their works are out of the heart or LOVE in this ASPECT...They've become a clanging cymbal...
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 KJV
Is it truly a GIFT FROM GOD ALMIGHTY if we had to EARN salvation?
Is it truly a gift from ME if I told you that you can have my new 2011 car for only $100?
Well that's a mighty marvelous DEAL, but logically the car is not a GIFT unless it's FREE...Because hypothetically you still had to pay FOR IT. Same applies to God's gift my friend. Simple.
"By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE for ALL. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can NEVER take away sins: But this man, after he had offered ONE sacrifice for sins FOR EVER, sat down on the right hand of God;"
@AmericanBerean Did you even glance at the verse I posted sir?...Good works EVIDENCE our faith in Jesus Christ...Read in context...Since when is it required for salvation? Our sins debt was paid in full on Calvary CLEARLY...Follow the logic...It was an ETERNAL damnation we earned because of our sins, so it required an ETERNAL Deity to come down to earth and ATONE for them...Eternal cancels out eternal...

@thelamb777 So, if you believe, repent, and go about your Christian life, yet don't get baptized, you will be saved?
