Sting. From "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball".
Can anyone help me with this? This performance is recorded a semi-tone above concert pitch. But Sting plays the fingerings for a guitar tuned to standard pitch. This means that either the guitar was tuned up a half-step (unlikely) or it was overdubbed later, a half-step higher. Furthermore, the music file from the album (the MP3) is at concert pitch. So, are we to believe that there were two versions of the same "live" performance at two different pitches?
I'm thinking this video must have been dubbed (re-recorded later a half-step above standard pitch) but it's all a bit of a mystery. If you can play guitar, tune it to standard (concert) pitch and then try to play along with the video and you'll see what I mean. Any ideas, anyone?

the guitar is slightly higher 1/4 to 1/2 step up. and of course the film speed could account for this. the soundtrack would be higher if the film was played faster
So cool to see such old footage of Sting playing this song. Of course his voice is amazing and he more than gets by on acoustic guitar. This is approximately 25 years old.
SterlingRe, your wrong about the age, this video is in the date 1981, so subtract that from 2009, and you will 28 years old! OMG!!! if it was 25 years, it would be in 2005!
I'm not sure what you're trying to calculate. I guessed the video was 25 years old, you said 28 so I'm off by 3 years old. All it means is that the performance would have been 1984 by my 25 year guess. More importantly Sting sounds awesome as those were special days for him and the Police.
That's what makes an artist great...the ability to perform without frills and gimmicks. Just hand the guy a guitar and he can make great music. AWESOME!
