This is a really unique traction elevator at the Physics Building on the U of MN Minneapolis campus. It was installed sometime in the 1950's and its all original. It has unique front/side doors, and the side door is only used on the 4S level. The elevator serves levels SB-R (Sub Basement through Roof). On the 4S level is the entrance to the machine room. The machine is VERY loud as you can clearly hear when calling the elevator (2 speed A/C). I may poke around up in the machine room and see if I can find a brand since I couldn't find anything on the car.

  • On the call buttons on SB it says R&O.

  • @Elevator5519 Quite possibly could be, didn't notice that. Only thing I did notice was the equipment up in the machine room is green... the usual Otis color.

  • Is that Tate Hall?

  • @Elevator5519 Yes it is

  • 4F is probably short for level 4 first sub-floor, and 4S for level 4 second sub-floor. In Hong Kong this is denoted as 4 and 4M/U4 respectively, or otherwise.

  • You could be right about that. I just assumed it meant 4 front and 4 side due to the door locations in the elevator.

  • Where was the machine room in relation to where you started that video? I can't believe how loud the relays and machine are!!

  • That's right, since they represent environmental protection.

  • yeah kone EcoDiscs are green

  • I ride this elevator every day. I had no idea it was anything unique.
