[English translation below]

TV2-reportage fra pro-israelsk demonstration i København 10. januar 2009.

Selve demonstrationen er fredelig, men det er de palæstinensiske moddemonstranter ikke.

Engelsk oversættelse af dialogen:

Seventy-five youngsters were arrested today in central Copenhagen. Several of them were, accordign to police sources, causing destruction and unrest. Some of the arrested are young Palestinians, including several minors, and others are what the police calls 'autonomous types'.

Rasmus Benzon, you are at the Copenhagen police station. What exactly led to these arrests?

Well, the group first attempted to interfere with a pro-Israel demonstration on Rådhuspladsen [Town Hall Square]. Then they headed north to Nørrebro and caused some assorted destruction in that area. When they chose to return to the city center, the police decided to intervene and conduct what is called a 'preventive arrest', because it was feared that the group would go to interfere with a different demonstration, which at that time was proceeding through town. The arrested were placed in what's called 'train formation' with straps on their hands, and were then distributed to six different police stations around town.

What will happen to those arrested now?

Since the arrests took place under the rule of 'preventive arrest', they can be held for only six hours, and thus they will be released a couple of hours from now [19:10 CET]. As you mention, many of them are minors, only 12-13 years of age, and for those the police has called their parents.

The police called their parents. Good.

Several of those who were arrested and being held at the police stations in Copenhagen had earlier today attempted to interfere in a pro-Israel demonstration on Rådhuspladsen. The participants in the demonstration, which was held under the slogan Israels right to self-defense had in advance feared trouble.

[Cut to footage from the demonstration]
It was otherwise peaceful, actually muted. The number of participants was not overwhelming [300-400], but the nervousness expressed by the Jews was. For this reason, few were willing to have their last names public.

Zionna [teacher] explains:
We have a constant fear, us Jews, because we don't feel so good about this, because there is war between Israel and Gaza.

For the Jews in Denmark, the war is a big issue.

Mirit [product responsible] explains:
They have asked at my job and elsewhere: What are you doing to the Palestineans?, and I may not unconditionally support the policy conducted by Israel, but on the other hand I consider this war, or, what to say, 'escalation' a necessity, unfortunately.

Søren Espersen, foreign policy spokesman of Dansk Folkeparti, holds a speech:
For Hamas, loss of life is of no importance...

Speeches are delivered. Israel has the right to self-defence, is the general opinion.

[Cut to angry Palestinians, one with his right arm in Hitler-salute.]
At this point, about 50 counter-demonstrators appear, holding posters and shouting: See what they do! See what they do!

The voices increase further as police diverts them away. They carry images of children killed in Gaza.

[Muhammed Isam states, while police keeps them at a distance:]
It this why they're here? Are they demonstrating for the right to kill more children? I'm just talking, I have no weapon, nothing.

[Cut back to the demonstration]
But this episode did not trouble the Jews.

[Question:]
How do you react to that?

[Zionna:]
It's fine, that's democracy what they're doing, as long as they're not using violence.

The demonstration closes without trouble. But at this time, the counter-demonstration around the square has grown, and it is loud. This caused frustration to surface:

[Zionna:]
This is impossible! We're not at peace with these people. We would love to talk quietly with them, but they're not letting us. That's it.

So far, things have been relatively quiet here in Rådhuspladsen [Sound of explosion] today. So far, it seems...

Now, this family wants home, fast. The counter-demonstration is coming, protesting against the Jews.
