The reason people open carry, as I do, is to make a statement. The statement being: It is still legal to carry handguns.

Youd be suprised how many people I talk to that dont know you can legally carry.

I fully support open carry rights. But carrying a gun into a correctional facility is just asking for trouble. Not even the guards or LEO's can bring guns into a secure facility. What do you want next... the right for inmates to be armed?

I suppose I worded my statement incorrectly. I was just expressing my disdain for people who open carry just for the image. I've run into several of them in my time. I firmly believe in my right to carry a firearm, and I exercise that right every day, I just don't think that carrying just to flaunt what you've got is very responsible.

@nolaOE800 One of the aspects of it being a right is that people can exercise that right for whatever reason they want. If people want to open carry simply to make a satement that it's legal to do so, they have that right. If the want to open carry because it's more comfortable than conceald carry, they have that right. If people can't exercise a right because their intentions aren't inline with the ideas of others, it's not a right.

if your primary reason for open carrying is to make a statement, then you don't deserve to carry at all.

open carrying makes a statement on it's own one way or the other, but your primary reason for carrying should be personal protection, otherwise you're just flaunting.

I agree with you 100%! I fully support people not leting the Police or Government in general push them around but these people take it so far that no reasonable person could possibly take them seriously and yes it makes others that stand up for their rights look bad especially if they live in NH!
