Please note that "Yorkshireman 1983" is not Phil Swift. He is my dad and I edited the entire DVD that he filmed. We dont know who has posted this but Loads of friends and collegues got a copy of the DVD years ago as a momento.
hahahahahaha all the reporters on the hill ran for their life as the cloud of coal dust swallowed em up dad let me have day off school to watch this top video
brought a tear to the eye watching this seeing john wilkie (R.I.P) JOHN i never worked down pit but its caused a lot of poverty and jobs closing the pits,my stepdad was a miner at hicky tony martlew so i have sympathy and lots of fond memories of the pit
Wow! Always wondered what it was like at "the pit" as my dad worked there as an overman. I used to live on Frederick St and could see it from my garden - was weird when it wasn't there! I remember the day they blew it up - I was in Y8 Geog at the Dearne High and we say the brickpond ripple with the vibration from the blast. My dad also filmed the demolition - was funny to see people run from the soot cloud. Wish he could have seen this vid!!! He passed away in 2008. Thanks for the great vid!
Great video and very appropriate soundtrack. I would love to use tiny portions of this video to put on mine. I would like to use where the loco is entering the unit, and the waggon being filled with coal. Hope to hear from you...David Cooper

Very sad, All those skills and good friends scattered to different areas. All in the supposed name of progress.
