  • Toure....man...how does this guy get on TV? He knows NOTHING about tennis. I've read CLUELESS Interviews he's done with players, where even the players are struggling with his ignorant questions.

Novotna....a complete all courter, and attacking player...NOT FUN TO WATCH? What an IDIOT.

  • The duchess of Kent is a class act

wonder what that cunt columnist from Rolling Stone achieved in life.

  • @LiamForeman Jana was a much better grasscourt player than Steffi?. As good as Jana was, she wasn't in Steffi's league. BTW, Sabatini choked just as much as Jana, probably more so. Even though Jana's choke against Steffi was bad, Sabatini's choke against Mary Joe at the '93 French was even worse.

  • Poor Jana will go down in history as probably the worst choke performance in the history of all sports. I have been in the same position when I used to compete (not internationally). You literally can't feel your racket or the ball when you hit it. What Jana needed to do was take a bathroom break, let the adrenaline wear off, and just focus on the next two games. She was a much much better grasscourt player than Graf. Too bad. At least she finally won Wimbledon.

  • So sad...

  • Even though Jana fell short against Steffi in the final, it still doesn't detract from her amazing run at '93 Wimbledon.

People forget Jana beat Sabatini in the quarters, Martina in the semis, en route to the championship against Steffi.

  • @jakubpetricek Unfortunately I was born after Lendl's great reign at the top so I never got to watch him but you're probably right. If you had to put a list of the best men and women who should've won Wimbledon but didn't, what would it look like?

  • Martina came back home in 1986 to play the Fed Cup final against Czechoslovakia, representing the US. The organisers wanted her to speak English and she said "I am sure ppl understand me". For 12 years her face couldn't be shown and her name mentioned in media, her Wimbledon triumphs never mentioned. The government thought the crowd would support Czech team, they were shocked to hear people cheering for Martina. Many ppl cried just upon seeing her again. It was about freedom, a very moving event

  • @mcgillianaire The best player not to win Wimbledon is Ivan Lendl. He had everything, had been nr. 1 for years and all he missed was Wimbledon. He focused and worked so hard - he was like a machine, extremely tough mentally, cold on the outside - his mother taught him to be like that. You must never show weakness. But Wimbledon was too much for Ivan the Terrible. But it was Martina Navratilová who opened the door for Czech players against orders of the stupid communist rulers.

  • I remember that game. The Czech commentator said, "I can't see what could stop Jana Novotná from becoming the new Wimbledon champion." And then she collapsed mentally. She didn't have the natural born winner mind. She won the tournament 5 years later and she deserves all the respect in the world. Now we got Petra Kvitová - shed was nr. 35 a year ago, she's won six tournaments incl. Wimbledon this year and is currently nr. 3. She will be a new dominator. And she's such a nice person

  • Omg, that was not a big double fault, I do it all the times and trying to improve the accuracy still.

  • People love to criticise Jana for choking against Steffi at '93 Wimbledon. But what about Sabatini's choke against Steffi in the '91 Wimbledon Final?. And lets not forget Sabatini choking like a dog against Mary Joe Fernandez at the '93 French Open, regarded by most as the worst collapse in womens' tennis history.

In my view, Sabatini was mentally frail, and couldn't fight her way out of a paper bag. At least Jana overcame her choking to win Wimbledon, Sabatini never did.
