Are there words, or are there words, well this is a superb recording of this very famous song from our cousins across the border In Scotland, I only hope I have done it justice. Of course brilliantly sung by Andy Stewart who on television we used to see the New Year In with, Hogmany in the true Scottish sense. Now of course we are taken over by London and what it wants to dump on us. Ah to return to the good old days, even if only for a moment.

  • Miss you andy especially your shows. RIP mate great song tho

  • @squirell1952 wheesht you

  • Wonderful.

  • @squirell1952 When you've finished your anti Anglo rant you might like to find out a few facts, BBC Scotland has it's headquarters on the banks of the River Clyde next to the STV headquarters & both pretty much have autonomy, There is also BBC Wales which has a Welsh speaking service which would be a waste of time airing across the UK or abroad because few people speak Welsh & that includes the Welsh. Many programs are made in Scotland & aired throughout the UK.

  • Far more than 50 years ago i listened to this song from the BFN (Germany) in mothers kitchen, sundays afternoon, when i had to do the dishes after lunch ... Christ, what a long time has been run away until today, when i tortured my brain for the possible titel of an almost forgotten song that i loved, a boy of twelfe ...

  • Beautiful, and such a magnificent tribute to all of our troops, near and far, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, all are inclue, you couldn't have done a better job, my son-in-law is a flight sergeant, RAF, serving.

  • This is such a great song,I love it.

I used to have a cassete called 100 minutes of Scottish music and it had some amazing songs on it but i have lost it and cant seem to find anywhere that has it.Does anyone know of this album and where I can get it

  • This was the very first 45rpm my family owned before we got a 45 player. We actually used an old gramaphone to play it. It brings back wonderful family memories of years ago when all my family was alive and healthy.

Great song and great nostalgia for me

  • IF I TUNE INTO "BRITISH" TV, ALL I GET IS "ENGLISH" CONTENT. AS SCOTLAND IS THE OLDEST COUNTRY IN BRITAIN, FOLLOWED VERY CLOSELY BY WALES AND CORNWALL, WHY CAN'T I GET MORE OF THEM??? WOULD ITV AND BBC BE ACTING AS "MOTHER ENGLAND" OVER THESE COLONIES? THEY ARE SO ANGLICISED, I SUPPOSE. WHERE IS THE CELTIC CULTURE ON "BRITISH" TV? TO MUCH "ANGLO" CULTURE!

    JUNE 22, 2011.

  • I remember being in Singapore when this was released in 1960, i was 6. I love this ,it is one of those songs that will be around forever. RIP Andy.
