Owners Roger, Rodney and Dale Maples are second-generation proprietors of MAPLEService—their father, Wayne, founded the firm in 1960. Dale Maples credits his company's years of success to its grounded business approach. "We're a relatively large company, but we operate very much like a small establishment," he explains. "We've developed a personalized way of doing business, and that's endeared us to our customers."

MAPLEService's technicians are required to attend four years of industry training and are encouraged to obtain certification in the California Uniform Plumbing Code, basics of HVAC, first aid, CPR, gas piping and solar energy. According to Mr. Maples, the company's high performance standards translate to an equally high rate of recommendation— more than 85 percent of its business comes from referrals.
