Learn the step by step process for applying griptape to a skateboard deck. We've broken it down into 6 simple steps. If you are unsure about how to grip a deck, ask someone for help.

1. Prepare the deck to be gripped. Remove all shrink wrap and stickers from the board.
2. Remove the paper backing from the grip tape and flip the paper so that the shiny side is facing the gritty side.
3. Start at one end and begin to apply the griptape to the deck. Work out any air bubbles that may show up.
4. Scrape the outline of the skateboard deck into the top of the board.
5. Begin to trim away the excess griptape by bringing the razor blad up through the bottom. Trace around the board until you have completed the whole shape.
6. Remove excess grip and poke the holes out from the bottom and then the top.

  • What can you use other than a file?

  • @Eamo251 go to the hardware store and ask for an Awl. It is usually around $5 and will poke the holes and scratch the edges

  • is it just me or does he look like shay carl?

  • i have one more step to MY gripping process. you take the excess grip that you have after you cut it and you rub it along the edges of the grip, it makes the grip smooth little on the sides so that if you fuck up a trick and land on it grip side down, you don't rip a chunk of grip off. it works, trust me. I've been skating for about nine years so I'm not just some poser fag who doesn't know what he's talking about.
