Anti Piracy Maritime Security Solutions - Anti Piracy net demo

Updated version of the original. This is a basic 3D demonstration of a net system that could be used on commercial vessels sailing through the gulf of Aden to help defend from pirate attacks.The animation was created by myself for the company named in the title.

Vessels sailing through this region are relentlessly attacked by Somalian pirates who hold the ship, crew and cargo for ransoms of millions of dollars. 98 ships were hijacked in 2008, and some are still held hostage by pirates today.

Pirates use small speedboats with outboard engines, are usually armed with AK47s, petrol bombs, and RPGs and use a ladder to board the stern or sides of the ship.

The net is designed to discourage pirates from boarding the vessel. It is manufactured from tough materials which jam the propeller completely, the boat is then dragged along with the ship, either capsizing or ending up completely underwater.

Place small security teams on board large commercial vessels. Any unknown boat that nears within 300 meters gets a warning shot across the bow if they do not turn away then they get fired upon.

If i was to board, I would not drive the boat into the net, but would have my boarding team get out and use the net to climb on board. This would be great at night rolling blacked out, but i think it would probably be an expensive waste of material.
